The headlines read day 85 – within 48 hours the world will know if the cap will work. For the past 84 days we, as people of deep concern and consciousness, have been incensed, revolted, indignant, etc at the “Disaster in the Gulf.” The focus of our outraged feelings has been BP and its Executives, and the United States Government for their total lack of productive involvement in cleaning up the oil gushing out of the broken well head. Not only are we exasperated that the pristine waters of the Gulf have not returned to its original state, but also that those directly affected have not been appropriately compensated. Watching the news and listening to the countless hours of interviews there are a few questions that have haunted me. IN THE PAST 85 DAYS HAS OUR GLUTTONOUS APPETITE FOR NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES CHANGED? (At so many levels each of us are co-conspirator with BP for the “Disaster in the Gulf.) HAVE YOU BECOME MORE SENSITIVE TO THE ABUSE OF THE ENVIRONMENT; TAKING AN ACTIVE ROLE TO CLEAN-UP THE MESS? HAVE YOU TAKEN AN ACTIVE ROLE IN PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT? What might it take for each of us to act in the remembrance that the earth and all that it contains is sacred? The fingerprint of God is everywhere, yet too often hidden by mess we have made.
